My prayers and condolences go out to the Gilliam family. May God comfort you through these most difficult times. We know that one day these earthly bodies that we live in will give away. Thanks be to our God the creator of mankind in His own image; we have a new body awaiting for us. This new body will never give away. In it, we shall live eternally.
Thanks Coach Joe Gilliam, Sr. for the motivation, the discipline, and the knowledge you gave me. Not only did you teach me how to play and coach this great American sport that we love so dearly called football. You taught me so much more about being a responsible man, the importance of being on time, and not to worries. These things have guided me throughout my adult life. I contribute much of my success to the values and discipline that you installed in me while I was student/athlete at Tennessee State University.
Precious memories: I will never forget the sound of Coach Gilliam’s voice in the locker room. Just before the football team took to the football field for pre-game warm-up. He would shout “SPECIALIST… FIVE MINUTES” and that’s all he would say. At that moment everyone in the locker room came together on one accord. We knew it was time to go to war.

Peace… we can rest assure coach is in good hands. He is with the Lord. His life was not in vain.

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!
