Services set for centenarian, former Knoxville teacher Lois Kelly, 104
Career Knoxville City Schools teacher, civil-rights activist and centenarian Lois Kilgore Kelly will be remembered in a funeral service Sunday.
Mrs. Kelly died Sunday. She was 104.
Beginning with her first teaching post in Covington, Tenn., in 1932, Mrs. Kelly’s career as an educator spanned more than 60 years. She taught at Cansler, Maynard and Lonsdale elementary schools, and served 22 years at Green School.
Mrs. Kelly received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Tennessee State University in 1931. In 1940, she married Dr. Curtis Kelly, who later opened a Knoxville dentistry practice.
