TSU Community invited to special Good Friday experience

Greetings All,

A little cross-promotion here, but one of 28&J’s co-founders, Victor Cyrus-Franklin (TSU c/o 2002) invites the TSU community to a special Seven Last Words worship experience to be held at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church near TSU’s campus (2334 Herman Street) on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

STRANGE FRUIT: The Seven Last Words of Jesus is a worship experience to remember the crucifixion of Jesus as recorded in the New Testament Gospels with the music of singer, songwriter and activist, Nina Simone.

The “seven last words of Jesus” would be shared by four preachers and three poets with the music led by Nashville’s own Mike Hicks & Funktional Punctuation!

We will collect an offering to support the The Sentencing Project, whose mission is to work “for a fair and effective U.S. criminal justice system by promoting reforms in sentencing policy, addressing unjust racial disparities and practices, and advocating for alternatives to incarceration (www.sentencingproject.org).

One of 28&J’s other co-founders, Shaun Giles (TSU c/o 2001 in Studio Art) will create a painting live throughout the service, which will later be sold to support The Sentencing Project.
