TSU offers quick passport deal

A winter break study trip to Cuba caused Tennessee State University senior David Rawles to discover students need passports.

Rawles, also the TSU Student Government Association president, tried to fill a few empty spots on that Cuba trip at the last minute, but couldn’t find a student who could take off on short notice. “Kids didn’t have passports,” Rawles said.

His solution was a campus passport fair on Tuesday — the first of its kind on a public college campus in Tennessee, according to university officials.

Getting a passport is the biggest barrier for students wanting to study abroad, said Mark Brinkley, director of international education at TSU.
