My Wishlist For The TSU 2014 Schedule

Congrats to Coach Rod Reed and the Tennessee State University football team. I know that it didn’t end how they wanted it, but this year is a great stepping stone for the future. 10 wins and playoff win is something to be proud of.

I do have a wishlist for the 2014 football schedule.

1) We need a bye week

We played 12 games straight with no breaks in between. We had a lot of injuries to pile up.

2) Play A FBS Team

A mid level FBS team, not necessarily a top 10 FBS team. Some good teams to play would be mTSU, U of Memphis, East Carolina. Those mid level FBS teams pay more money than most classics and you will  have opportunity to play on TV.

3) Absolutely don’t want to see us play a lowly Division II team.

Nothing personal against Central State, but a 63-7 game with a crowd of 5,000 people. That isn’t a good look.

4) At least 5 Home games

We need to actually host home games in Nashville. Building our fan base in Nashville is key to growing TSU Athletics. We need to get out of the habit of telling people in Nashville people to attend games in other cities. We need to protect this house!

5) Fans to show up inside the stadium and not tailgate the whole game

We now have a championship caliber team and they need their fans to actually come and cheer them on. We need to have a real home field advantage. I know LP field is huge, but half of our fans are outside tailgating. 16,000 inside + 20,000 outside. Add those up and 36,000 would be a great crowd! That is the lower bowl at LP field. That would be huge for our players.  Also, unfortunately, the Hale Stadium experiment didn’t work out for us to well.

Here is the Tentative Football Schedule for the 2014 Tigers. Very Tentative.

Tentative football schedule

8/30 – Alabama State (John Merritt)
9/6 – University Of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (location TBA)
9/13 – Jackson State (Southern Heritage Classic)
9/20 – Tennessee Tech
9/27 – Florida A&M (Homecoming)
10/4 – @ SEMO
10/11 – Jacksonville State
10/18 – UT Martin
10/25 – @ Eastern Illinois
11/1 – Eastern Kentucky
11/8 – @ Austin Peay
11/15 – **OPEN**
11/22 – @ Murray State

Do you have any wishes for the 2014 season? Please leave your comments!

  1. I agree with the author: TSU should play one FBS team in 2014. The payout from that alone could really help the athletics budget. But it can’t be an MTSU. I think they should shoot for scheduling a low-level BCS school like Purdue or similar. Thanks.
